The word genius gets thrown around a lot giving the meaning a lot less significance.  If everyone’s a genius, then what would you call those people more genius than them?  People even tend to use the word in their every day vocabulary when describing an idea or when someone does them a favor.  This should make the real geniuses of the world pretty ticked off.

One person who would agree with me is Kanye West.  You must admit the guy has achieved a lot in his career and his music has affected millions of people all over the world.  But I wouldn’t call him a genius.  Not yet anyway.  He has had genius moments in some of his music or like when he inarticulately called out GEORGE BUSH for not liking black people on live TV during a telethon.  But I don’t think I would call him genius quite yet.  Let’s wait until the end of his career to judge that.

In Spike Jonze’s new short film titled “We Were Once Fairytale”, Kanye plays himself in a role, which looks to be borderline psychotic.  Several people in history come to mind when I see this character.  DAVID HELFGOTT, and Australian piano player who suffered from anxiety neurosis seemed to have the same characteristics as Kanye in this video.  On the other end of the spectrum, Kanye’s character also reminds me of ED in the 1997 smash hit GOOD BURGER.

Where was Spike going with this and how are we to perceive Kanye?  Is he taking on the genius role personified in a David Helfgott?  Or is he more like Ed?  Check it out for yourself on CREATIVITY.
