Danny Way Has Been Skating Longer Than Most Of You Have Been Alive

Whenever you find someone in the same profession for two decades, you know that you are in the presence of greatness. Living in Los Angeles, you run into celebrities all the time in the street. I’m not the type who will go skull bone a celebrity just because they’re famous but I will take notice. There are certain celebrities though who had really caught my attention because of the circumstance. The biggest star I had ever met was KATO KAELIN. He just got done doing a reality show and my friend and I spent the entire hour sitting and watching the master at work. There are actors and there are actors. Kato is one of those actors. He ended up autographing our parking ticket and was a very friendly person.
The second biggest person I’ve ever met in person is SHAQ. He’s of course literally the biggest person I’ve ever met in person but his character wasn’t as big as Kato’s. I saw him at the mall in the corner of my eye. My peripheral vision quickly took notice of this big beast of a person playing with his daughter. I quickly ran up to him and asked him to sign my forehead. He wouldn’t do it but did sign my t-shirt. Shaq was really nice but wouldn’t really take the time away from playing with his daughter to talk to his fans. So he gets a few points docked off for that.
The third biggest celebrity I ever met was FRODO himself, Elijah Wood. Brian and I actually saw him around town a lot when we used to go to Brit Pop shows in the 90’s. But there was one particular encounter that stood out the most. We were outside the Troubadour in West Hollywood and noticed a guy helping out his sick drunk girlfriend. It turned out to be Elijah who was holding his girlfriend’s hair while she puked in the streets. He was still straight back then. He wouldn’t really talk to us as we tried to give us a hand. So instead, we decided to drive off and moon him. He was pretty receptive to that. But I guess we now know why.
All of these people are bigger than most people. They are the extraordinary. Danny Way definitely belongs to this group of people. Plan B Skateboards is proud to announce Danny Way’s 20 Year Pro Skateboarding Anniversary. To celebrate all that Danny has contributed to skateboarding since 1989, Plan B has created a new tribute website showcasing over a dozen of Danny’s best video parts, magazine covers and photos. Video parts include Hocus Pocus, Speed Freaks, Risk It, Questionable, Virtual Reality, Second Hand Smoke, Stars and Bars, XYZ, The Revolution, On Video, The DC Video, The Deluxe Edition DC Video, plus new unseen bonus footage edited together with the best of Danny’s Plan B promo footage. Also, coming in November, look for additional features including a special tribute clip featuring interviews and stories from Hosoi, Lance Mountain, Rodney Mullen, Jim Thiebaud, Jamie Thomas and many more.
In addition to the DW20 website, Plan B has also teamed up with legendary skateboard artist Wes Humpston to create a special 20 Years board graphic. Designed in the spirit of his original Dogtown board graphics, the classic cross and wings logo will be found on an old school anniversary D.Way board as well as street, vert and mega pro boards along with t-shirts and stickers. The DW20 Collection will be arriving in skate shops Spring 2010.
And…photographer Mike Blabac has selected several of his classic Danny Way photos that will be made into limited edition photo prints. For a limited time you can go to his website from the Plan B site and buy signed Danny Way prints in two sizes.
