Help Kelly Slater Get Bronzed

Having a bronzed statuette of you done by an artist is a huge honor. This goes beyond any painting done ARTISTS with an afros. Anyone can interpret you into a painting. But it’s not the same thing as having your baby booties bronzed by your mom either because that was just done at K-Mart. A bronze statue is on a whole other level. It takes a great craftsman to painstakingly create one of these statues not to mention the endless hours needed to complete it.
That’s why it’s understandable when people desire to be a human bronze statue. When TOM JONES first did it in the 70’s, he created an entirely new genre of the bronze statue. Everyone from Tom’s GENERATION kept the dream alive as they got older, but the look seemed to fade out and began to look a bit ridiculous. But thanks to Tom’s DAUGHTER (below), she kept the look young while hanging around the best clubs in Las Vegas, Miami, and Tucson.
Now Kelly Slater can bask in the glory of being bronzed. Although most would argue he’s always BRONZE (haha). But bronze sculptor Natasha Drazich and her brother Sam have created a great piece of art by bronzing Kelly Slater. He has definitely come a long way throughout his entire career and now, people hundreds of years from now will know that there once lived a great man who lived amongst the fishes.
From Transworld Surf, a casino night fundraiser has been organized by the artist of a Kelly Slater bronze sculpture, Natasha Drazich, and her brother Sam in the hopes of raising the required funds for the completion of the work. Once completed, the sculpture is to be placed at 4th St. North and A1A in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
On August 29th, 2009, The Cocoa Beach Country Club will host the fundraiser from 6 to 11 p.m. A variety of casino games will be played, and there will also be a raffle, a silent auction, a buffet-style meal, and other entertainment.
With a successful fundraising effort, the sculpture could be completed as early as December of 2009.
The cost of the event is $50 and with the entry fee comes $500 in “funny money”. For more information go to the Kelly Slater Project Website.
