If you live in the Los Angeles area, there are plenty of fun things just outside the country lines. Of course you have all the beach cities on the north, west, and south. But take it from me. All of the action is out east. In another blog posting I wrote up today, I spoke on the subject of Utopias. Well one of the best Utopia’s within the United States is only about 25 miles outside down town LA. I know it so well because I grew up there. It’s called WALNUT. On top of being 85% ASIAN, the city has the best horse trails you will ever find. You can spend hours at the TEEN CENTER playing basketball, billiards, or taking KARATE lessons. And they even just opened an IN N’ OUT.
Go past Walnut on the 10 FWY for about another 15 miles and you will come across one of the gnarliest Utopia’s ever. It’s not necessarily as clean as Walnut, but it’s got the grit and toughness characterized by the OLD WEST. It’s nickname is “Fontucky”. And even though it’s not legal in the state of California to own and carry a licensed handgun on the streets, people in this area do so. I know this first hand because the guy I bought my FAKE ID (pictured above) from at the FONTANA SWAP MEET carried one.
If that’s not enough for you, continue to drive east and you will pass a high volume of METH labs. Go past those because they are bad news. But soon after you will hit the base of the mountains. There you will see a true Utopia. Looking for some great mountain bike trails? You’ve got Mt. Baldy. Do you want Christmas time in the middle of June? You’ve got SANTA’S VILLAGE.
And of course you can go snowboarding on some of the nicest mountains in California. But before you buy yourself a pass, try to get one with Louie Vito, MFM, Cory Cronk and other Technine team riders at Mountain High’s Season Pass Party at the Vans Skatepark and The Block In Orange. Free admission and $5 to skate with the purchase of a season pass, $12 without. Free food from Wahoos Tacos for the first 300 guests.
