X Games Day Four - What? X Games is Still Going On?

The X Games wrapped up with a whimper today with four events closing out the 15th edition of the biggest spectacle in action sports.

TRAVIS PASTRANA MUST WIN?

I think no athlete was hyped more this X Games than Travis Pastrana, and there was the hope (by ESPN) that he would deliver a Gold at some point.  It didn’t happen with the Moto X Best Trick, but he came close in Rally.  But it wasn’t Tanner Foust, Brian Deegan or Ken Block that beat him.  It was some Swiss guy.  Better luck next year, ESPN!

RALLY IS FUN?

From the ESPN X Games media guide:

In its fourth year of being a sport category at the X Games, Rally Car Racing is one of the most exciting features of the entire event.

From the Lat34 media guide:

Rally car racing is only exciting when done by Ken Block down a snow-covered mountain.

KELLY SLATER WINS!

But wait, you say, is surfing part of X Games? Nope, it isn’t part of it any more, but Kelly Slater still found a way to win something on Sunday. He was named the Action Sportsperson of the Year by the Laureus World Sports Academy.

Never heard of it? Well, it is a good thing — it’s “universal movement that celebrates the power of sport to bring people together as a force for good.”

It was Slater’s second win and he beat out last year’s winner, Shaun White, among others.

Now, if they could only bring back surfing to the X Games.
