Red Bull Junior Surf Masters Set To Take Off Hit Australia This Weekend

For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, 1976’s “The Bad News Bears” is an awesome movie. It is better than that remake they did a couple years back, even though Billy Bob Thornton is pretty awesome as the coach.
It isn’t the stars that make the movie great either, even though the dude that plays “Rorschach” in Watchmen is a little kid in it; what makes the film great is that like Kevin Smith says “If you didn’t know better you would totally think those kids are really a baseball team.”
It is very true; when you watch that movie you really think that those kids are a real baseball team. That to me is the mark of great acting that they are so good you believe that they are the person they are portraying. If you have some free time check out the film, you won’t be disappointed.
It looks like Red Bull is looking for some Bad News Bears of their own, for more info look below:
This August, Red Bull is rolling out the red carpet for Queensland’s junior surfers, as the ‘Red Bull Junior Surf Masters Qualifiers’ hit the Gold and Sunshine Coast for the most anticipated junior surf events of the year.
Red Bull and Mick Fanning are giving QLD and northern NSW best young surfers the opportunity to possibly compete head-to-head against Australia’s best pro-junior surfers.
Competitors between the ages of 14 and 20 (Girls and Boys of all ages will be competing in the single division), and dream of one day becoming a professional surfer could be on the fast-track to fortune and fame as Red Bull and Mick Fanning are on the lookout for surfing’s next big star!
The first QLD Qualifier will be held on the Sunshine Coast from August 1 to 2 and is expected to attract a stacked field of the region’s best young surfers.
An interesting innovation from Red Bull is the single division format, which means all surfers (boys and girls) across the 14 to 20-year-old age bracket will be competing directly against each other.
The top four surfers from each ‘Qualifier’ event advance through to the ‘Trials,’ which is a battle between the best 24 surfers from the six ‘Qualifier’ events held across NSW and QLD throughout June, July and August.
At the end of the ‘Trials,’ the top ten amateur junior surfers will then compete in the ‘Finals’ against ten invited pro-junior surfers, hand picked by Mick Fanning himself.
The ‘Trials’ and ‘Finals’ competition will be held from August 28 to 30, at Cronulla Beach and will implement the innovative ‘Torched’ running format- introduced at the Red Bull Junior Surf Masters in 2008.
There has also been an unprecedented amount of hype surrounding the 2009 Red Bull Junior Surf Masters prize pool.
At the ‘Finals,’ First prize takes home a generous share of the AUD$45,000 prize pool, which is the biggest ever awarded for a junior surf event in Australia.
The event and subsequent prizes have been specifically designed to help up-and-coming surfers launch a professional career into the World Qualifying Series and beyond!
