Big City Skatepark Opens In Bakersfield

I was at the STANDARD last weekend for a friend’s birthday party. If you’re not from around Los Angeles, the Standard is a hotel on the Sunset Strip and they often open the pool to the public on weekends. The crowds that gather there tend to be 21-35 year olds with RYAN SEACREST hair and horrible TANS. They most likely work in the film industry and the rave on about how great Los Angeles is. First of all, the Standard is a very poor representation of L.A. Second, if you want to see real L.A. go hang out in a place like LINCOLN HEIGHTS. The people in those neighborhoods are more L.A. than a bunch of poseurs trying to show off their pecks.
Another thing I noticed about the pool was that nobody seems to be using the restroom. Whenever I got up to take a piss, I easily walked up to the bathroom with no wait. There had to be at least 100 people at this pool. Plus this was a single toilet meant for men and women. I thought to myself, “What the heck is going on here? Doesn’t anyone ever pee?” Then I took a look over at the pool. Dudes in there looked way too relaxed. The other thing that caught my eye was the pool’s surface. It looked quite murky as if someone poured a few gallons of milk into it. “Aah”, I thought. Yep, just as I suspected. People were urinating in this 10 X 10 swimming pool. But I guess it shouldn’t have surprised me considering most of them looked like they were used to “golden showers”.
But it’s been getting a lot hotter here in Southern California. Where is one to go? I have a suggestion. Forget the pools. Forget the piss. Take a road trip up to Bakersfield because a dope new indoor skatepark just opened called BIG CITY. The park has all the essentials for a good time and ever Tuesday at the 6:00 session we will have the Best Trick contest. Winner gets a free skate session. Come by the skatepark and see what it’s all about.
Big City’s grand opening is on August 1st. Try to make it.
