Windells Camp Essay Contest

My senior year in high school can be summed up by one class, that class would be Senior English. I had spent the entire year sleeping in this class, literally sleeping the entire period. Also I had never turned in a single assignment the whole year, not a single one. The twist of this story is that I got an “A” on every single test. My teacher had suspected me of cheating and to tell you the truth I don’t blame her; I wasn’t cheating though. I had read every single novel for that class two years prior to taking that class. So instead of reading with the class, in class, I slept. To make along story short even with my excellent test scores I still had a “D-“ in class and was not going to be able to graduate from High School. I spoke to my teacher about this and she said that if I wrote 5 essays and read them in front of the class, I would pass. I ended up passing Senior English with a “B”, mostly due to the random subject matter of my essays: “Why the Ford Aspire is the Worst Car Ever Made” got me a standing ovation and is one of my favorite things I have ever wrote.

You too can write your own “Why the Ford Aspire is the Worst Car Ever Made” and maybe win a free trip to Windells Camp:

MT HOOD, OR – June 2009 – Tim Windell, owner of Windells Camp, has started a writing contest for a chance to win a free session at the “Funnest Place on Earth.” One deserving kid will receive an all-inclusive week at Windells Camp including instruction, food, prizes, supervision, video review, camp activities and more – without paying a dime.

“We are not looking for the best writer in terms of grammar and punctuation,” says Windell. “We just want to pick the person who will benefit the most from camp – It goes without saying the camp will benefit from the kid as well.”

All submissions will be read and considered for the contest. The rules are simple: Submit a 1-3 page essay stating why you need the camp and why the camp needs you. The deadline for submissions is July 6th at midnight. Submissions should be emailed directly to Tim at tim@windells.com. Windells Camp has posted an example of how to craft the essay on its website at http://www.windells.com/tag/scholarship.
