Nowadays, it takes a lot to really get the juices going in the mind. The last time something blew the lid of my mind, was when Tron came out. Or the first time I saw Return of the Jedi at the movies. Or when The National Gallery had its first Leonardo Da Vinci Show in fifty years. You know something major. I guess that’s the lame part of being older and experienced. Seen it, done that. Others really have to be on their “A” game to really put you or me over the top on being impressed.

Now if you’re in the BMX game. You gotta love the people in the sport and industry that are always trying to take their current status to the next level. The guys at Eastern Bikes posted up a sneak preview of their new tubing dubbed “XHelix.” The cross-helixed designed tubing will be available on Eastern’s 2010 aftermarket frames and complete bikes. Eastern has claimed its”30% stronger than double-butted tubing.”

Eastern’s Mike Corley gives the good word about the going ons of their R&D dept: “It is not just pressed metal it is like taking a normal double butted chromoly tube and adding somewhat of a ribcage to the inside. The tubing is actually thicker where the ribs are increasing strength. Think of your skin without bones.” Skin without bones!? The last time innovation like this happened, was when some amazing person gave us boneless chicken wings. Think about that. One to grow on.
