Total Bummer No One Rides Today At Billabong Pro Tahiti

The first day was pretty amazing, as we have already recalled. The next best thing about being able to attend the Billabong Pro Tahiti, is watching it from the comfort of your own home via web cast. Hopefully Kelly Slater, the David Stern of Surfing, will be able to get it broadcast in HD on ESPN next year. Shoot, I’ll settle for ESPN2. The ticker was letting us know that today the 2nd day of open competition was going to be a lay day.
Bummer to the max dudes. It’s not right. You would think we would have some sort of weather control device by now in 2009. F the Jetsons and their lies.
In Teahupoo, Tahiti the powers that be that run the Billabong Pro T, called off the competition for the day , when only two to three foot waves were the only thing on the buffet for surfers to eat up. For our international readers, two to three feet is about 1 metre. Swell forecasts for the coming days look really confident . The event organizers will be upbeat about have a great showcase to roll out in the upcoming days.
“We went on hold for the morning to see if the swell would jump and the wind would turn but it hasn’t with only small, onshore waves out there today,” Perry Hatchett, ASP World Tour Head Judge, said. “We’re expecting a new swell to fill in over the coming days with better winds so we’re hoping to be running again soon.”
Everyone is hoping to reconvene tomorrow morning at 6:30am to assess conditions for a possible 7:30am start. Lets all cross our fingers , make sleepy , listen to Death From Above, and pray that the waves come crashing in. In the meantime, you can peep the Highlights from Day 1’s Billabong Pro Tahiti presented by Air Tahiti Nui are available at www.billabongpro.com
