PacSun Gets No Love in La Jolla

I remember the first time; I was learning how to surf. How crazy disorganized the whole session was. An east coast boy, who has had dreams of learning how to surf like agent Utah in Point Break, Wishing on a star that I would be taken in by a mystical surfing guru like Bodhi. So we take a stroll out to pipes beach. I get on the board, and paddle out. Amazingly, the amateur and pro surfers that are friends with my brothers give me this simple directive as their surfing lesson. “Hey Bra, Just watch what I do, and Copy me”. Big Mistake, I paddle out, success, try to pop up, no go, the board comes out from underneath, and bam. The wave takes me, and leaves a chuckle in my mind.

Now, being a kid from the East Coast, the closest thing we had to surf culture other than movies, was PacSun, the clothing store. Lame. PacSun is about as surfing as hot topic is Goth. So to my surprise when the folks at Surf Diva in La Jolla San Diego, gave us a heads up about their launch party Hinano Tahiti’s Spring/Summer 09’ Line. The party consisted of raffles and giveaways provided by Block Surf, Hinano Tahiti Clothing and Surf Diva. It was quite the blow out. There was food catered by Ishiki Plate Lunches. Kaleo Onalani of San Diego Gave a spectacle show in true Tahitian style. Izzy and Coco Tihanyi, co-owners of Surf Diva, opened up their boutique displaying the entire new Hinano product in the store. Real Tahitian food, Surfing festivities, and Culture. Eat your heart out PacSun; you can’t hold a candle to this.
