Obama Is Down With Surfing

The Personal Health Investment Today Act of 2009 (PHIT) if passed by the Fat Cats in Washington could mean many great things. One of these could be that your next surfboard purchase would be tax-deductible. That mo’money mo’money in your pocket for more fish tacos, or other great libations. The politicos of DC are finally coming around to seeing the health benefits of surfing. Congressman Ron Kind (D-WI) has introduced the Personal Health Investment Today Act of 2009 (PHIT) in the U.S. House of Representatives. Congressmen Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), Kevin Brady (R-TX) and Zach Wamp (R-TN) joined Kind in sponsoring the PHIT Bill. So it’s not exactly the political dream team we all hoped for. Yet in the official press release
“The PHIT Act would change current federal tax law to allow for the deduction or use of pre-tax dollars to cover expenses related to sports, fitness and other physical activities. Americans could invest up to $2,000 annually to pay for physical activities by investing money in existing pre-tax Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), Medical Savings Accounts (MSA) and/or medical reimbursement arrangements. PHIT would only expand the expenses eligible for reimbursement to include physical activity costs as a form of prevention; PHIT would not increase contribution limits to these accounts. Once an individual or family spends 7.5% of their income on qualified medical expenses, they could deduct physical activity expenses directly.”
To cut through all the red BS, it basically says that if we take initiative and preventive measures in ensuring our health. We should get a break for it, unlike those who are lazy, and eat too many value meals at Mickey D’s are ass out. If you ask me, it’s a win win, by encouraging more physical activity through financial incentives, and tax breaks we will improve our overall quality of life in the schools and in the workplaces, and other places if you catch my drift..?! So do you a solid, contact your local state senator and house of representative. Tell them Obama sent you, because we all know the Prez Hangs loose being from Hawaii. Tell them to support the PHIT act. Imagine that getting money back for buying a surfboard. Who says the American Dream can’t come true.
