Sooner or later at one time or another. A rider willingly or unwillingly becomes a tenant of a Flophouse. Maybe you’ve never heard it before. It’s when A group of riders take an apartment that’s designed to sleep 3 people comfortably. Instead this apartment becomes a troll cave like structure where there are always 4-5 air mattresses. You wake up and walk over people still asleep in your Flophouse. The apartment will smell like a baby’s dirty diaper after heavy days of riding powder. The rent is usually $120 bones out of a $1500 rental. Yet this little knows truth of life the Flophouse that is rarely acknowledge by the general snowboarding public. A two headed sword of pride and shame living in a Flophouse. I’ve had homies live in Flophouses from Tahoe, to Whistler, to Mammoth to the Alps Swiss side to the Pyrenees on the other fo’sho. The are an essential component of the snowboarder lifestyle.
So the good people at Rome SDS have organized a FlopHouse photo contest. In the Flophouse gallery, you can post pictures of your house and check out how other shreds who ride 100+ days a year are living around the world. You ask yourself, why should I public display my own humiliation. What’s the prize? The winning crew will get 5 Rome decks to fight over. They’ll be deciding around mid July, so get your photos from the season together and go upload your stuff at Rome SDS Flophouse by the entry deadline, June 15th.
