Battling Doc Oct, Venom, The various Goblin, Hobgoblin can be really tiring. I mean, can you imagine all day long swinging around the city, and then BAM! You in some superhero fight, that’s going to cost the city millions in repairs. After some saving lives, and being a hero blah blah. What would you do to relax? Well if you’re Spidey, you go pond skimming! Squaw Valley happens to host the biggest pond skim in North America.
It’s just not Spiderman that is taking a much needed break, going to these kinds of events. It’s open to anyone with guts, and access to Skis, snowboards, or a Styrofoam beer cooler.
The world‘s biggest Pond Skimming Contest happens to take place for the 19th time on May 3rd, 2009. At the beautiful Lake Cushing Classic. Did we mention that the water is not of the tropical variety? It’s frigid and cold. Like really cold. The kind of cold that shrinks certain objects in the human body, and send them burrowing into the abdomen for heat.
The tradition started way back years ago. When the Lake known as Cushing melted. Skiing across the cold water, was an insane and heartwarming way to say goodbye to the cold, hello Sun and spring. Over time it turned into locals trying to out do each other in costumes, and what manner of vehicle they would use to try and cross the Lake. Now, as opposed to the past, you don’t go home cold and empty-handed. They actually hand out prizes for this kind of thing. Pissss. It’s kind of a big deal. There are going to be five divisions men’s and women’s ski and snowboard, and then there’s the dark horse “unlimited” division.
You gotta sign a wavier if you want to play.
