The Wooden Years

Sometimes you got to get out of the water. Get off the board, and wipe the board wax off your nipples. Dry off the shorts, put on some footwear, and go check out your roots. Im not talking about your HAIR. I’m talking about checking out the surfboards, when they were still made out of wood. Held together with glue and varnish. You will be mesmerized by the craftsmanship. You will wonder in awe how the old skool folks killed some major waves back in the day with wooden surfboards. You will have visual evidence when you get to the museum; the rest is up to your imagination. Soak it all in, where in this era of the wooden years, surfers were also craftsmen, carving out history. Shaping the boards and guiding the direction of surfing as we know it now with a lot of R+D, and trial and error.
The new exhibit is Surfboard Shapers Part 1: The Wooden Years opens up on April 26th 2009 on Sunday. I invite you, no I demand, that you come and see history before your eyes, help us celebrate the Exhibit’s Grand Opening.
