Don’t let the title fool you.  I know what you’re thinking.  With some of the most innovative skateboarding contests today spawned from the early beginnings of the sport such as the High Ollie Challenge, the game of S.K.A.T.E tournaments, and the Manny Contests, I figured that on April 15th, 2009, the city of Santa Monica will be hosting a new innovative skate event that can be seen in the likes of THRASHIN and GLEAMING THE CUBE.  The Levi’s 3rd Annual Powersliding Championships is set to go off on the Santa Monica Pier.  I quickly assumed that this event would incorporate some of those new SLIDER GLOVES.  But wait a second.  You can’t bomb a hill on a pier!

Nope!  For this event, I’ll you will need are a good pair of JEANS.  Something durable and can last endless amounts of friction because the objective of Powersliding 2009, is to slide around on your ass.  No joke.  Or is it?  Just as you would as a kid sliding down a set of stairs using the handrail while crushing your nuts, the entire event is based on that.  This should be interesting.  These Powersliders just better be careful because just as they utilize walking the streets, so do the EXTREME WALKERS.  If they ever come across each other, some major DRAMA may go down.

Rock stars, celebrity judges including Olympic Gold Medalist skier Jonny Moseley, Jason Acuña (“Wee-Man” from Jackass), and Kendra Wilkinson (the too hot to handle star of The Girl’s Next Door), sliders and the public will all converge at the Santa Monica Pier beach parking lot from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on April 15th for the competition. The event includes a sizable street course that will test the competitors’ freestyle skills with 40-foot, four-story rails and boxes, and a cool ocean breeze with a good experience for your audience/event goers. Other highlights include a performance from Brooklyn rockers Matt & Kim, complimentary treats from Mountain Dew and Kogi Korean BBQ taco trucks, and  free custom screen-printed apparel, all surrounding the massive Powersliding course. A way for spectators to cut loose and take a break from tax day, KROQ’s Psycho Mike, Catfish, and our celebrity judges will keep the crowd entertained and help encourage carnage on the rails.

Other sponsors rumored to be there: Preparation-H and MENS CUT.
