Every year, the skateboarding community comes together to celebrate a day that represents not only their favorite hobby, but also their way of life. It’s the anniversary of the groundbreaking home video, Guys Gone Wild when gender roles around the world were turned upside down and guys were finally looked at as equals. The video series gave the opportunity to really showcase how wild a skater can get. And as you know, skaters do get WILD. Unfortunately many of skaters were unaware of who the target audience were and began to shun the video.
But Emerica came around to capitalize on another important day, GO SKATE DAY, which happens every year in the middle of summer on June 21st. Emerica’s WILD IN THE STREETS is a day when everyone who’s available can come and latch on to their party in the streets. This year, the team has decided to go international by celebrating the landmark day in Vancouver BC, Canada.
This year, Wild in the Streets will benefit LeeSide, the DIY skatepark that Lee Matasi started in Vancouver. Lee was shot and killed in 2005 and LeeSide is an extension of his dream. If you were still looking for that road trip across the country with your friends, this would be a great way of starting or ending that trip. But remember if you’re from the U.S, you will need a passport to get into Canada. Check back to the EMERICA site for more details.
