KING OF S.K.A.T.E 2009

You know that it’s a phenomenon when there are four or five different S.K.A.T.E events every month for the past year or two. Eric Koston, and correct me if I’m wrong, invented the game of S.K.A.T.E and if he only knew how big it would get, should have copyrighted the idea. Doing so would have resulted in thousands of dollars in royalty checks every month. Just like the song “Happy Birthday To You” was patented and that’s why you no longer see the servers at CHILI’S singing that tune.
But in our society paralleling greed with capitalism, I don’t see a good-hearted man like Eric Koston ever trying to monopolize a game that everyone can play. And in all honesty driving around Los Angeles seeing so many little kids taking up skateboarding, I see it becoming as big as soccer in other countries. The game of S.K.A.T.E like I said created a phenomenon. A phenomenon that no matter how sick or crappy you are on a shred stick, you can participate in a competitive game using your board.
And on May 11th the second edition of the worldwide first online GAME OF S.K.A.T.E will start. Anybody can participate in this unique “Skateboard Show“. Every week one entrant of this “Round Table of Skateboarding” shows a trick you have to copy, film and upload to the king-of-skate.com platform within seven days.
915 claimants to the throne from more than 12 nations fought last year for the crown, 2,500 Euros and weekly skate-stuff packages. Herwig “Herbie” König assured the title in a haunting battle against Matthias Frei with an almost unbelievable trick bombardment.
In 2009 too, it’s all about skills, cash, prestige and of course a whole lotta fun. Once again Germany’s skateboard wunderkind Alex Mizurov will show you together with his top-class homeys the tricks you will have to copy. As a special appeal you have the chance to win some precious prizes and take them home with you, if the crowd judges your trick as the best. Just like last year the winner of the King of S.K.A.T.E competition will be determined in a decisive final. This year there is 2,500 Euros cash and worldwide media coverage at all King of S.K.A.T.E media partners. So join the competition!
