East LA Kids Getting Loco With Each Other

Bell Garden Skate Park will play host to Red Bull 7 City Hustle, pitting skaters from seven surrounding East Los Angeles areas against each other in a skate contest to highlight the East side’s up and comers. This is a unique contest because there was a time when these areas used to be the home of such gangs like WHITE FENCE and MI VIDA LOCA. And late at night when their parents were asleep, these hoods from different hoods would come to battle it out. Battle all night long in a competition FEZ calls, “YO MAMA”.
It’s great to see that kids from these areas are not following the gangsta ways, rather following the shredder way. And trust me, my parents used to live in Huntington Park and they couldn’t sleep all night due to YO MAMA jokes.
Each area or city represented has its own local skate park, and a select few skaters from each will travel to Bell Gardens to prove they (and their city) are the best. The seven cities fighting for supremacy include: Bell Gardens, South Gate, Huntington Park, Downey, Bell, Lynwood and Belvedere.
The event will feature several brackets broken out by age, with20-25 total riders in each. Brackets include: 7-10 year olds;11-14 year olds; and 15-17 year olds. A winner from each bracket will earn more than just bragging rights – they will also get a professional video reel of their skate performance, produced by Red Bull, and a scholarship for skate lessons at the renowned Camp Woodward West facility. Interested amateur skateboarders can signup at any of the seven participating skate parks or online atwww.redbull7cityhustle.com. Pre-registration is required - walk-up competitors will not be allowed to skate in the competition.
The event will also feature an appearance by Red Bull team rider Joey Brezinski, live music from local-area bands, food, raffles and a one-of-a-kind school bus converted into an interactive gaming zone.
