When the brothers Maloof aren’t running around Vegas trying to win back their COUGARS by making crap loads of money, or when they’re not too busy watching their SACRAMENTO KINGS make the news with their now unrecognizable team who once rivaled the greatest franchise in NBA history (next to the Clippers), I think it’s safe to say that the Maloof’s have certainly made an impression on skateboarding. I’m not exactly sure how they got into this industry or what even attracted them to invest in skateboarding (probably RYAN SHECKLER), but they are definitely surrounding themselves with the correct people in order to create the best skateboard competition known to man.
The Maloof Money Cup, a three-day, five-event competition and festival is back for a second year. The richest event in skateboarding, created by Joe Maloof, returns to my favorite city in the world,the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, CA during the fair’s opening weekend, July 10-12, 2009.
Sanctioned as the National Championship by World Cup Skateboarding, the Maloof Money Cup (MMC) - presented by industry vets, etnies and action sports staple Monster Energy - is set to roll with more than $450,000 in prize money.
The 2009 event will also feature an innovative new street course designed by some of the top names in the skateboard industry and extended broadcast coverage, 3 1/2 hours in original content, on NBC and MTV2.
