The Snickers Commercial That Blew The Skateboard World Away

Over a year ago, most of us in the skateboard world witnessed something unprecedented that would forever change the aesthetic in skateboarding films. Not only in the way the streets were looked at, but the way skateboarding is filmed put skateboarding in the upper echelon of extreme sports. Ty Evans, Spike Jonze, and the LAKAI team put together something extremely unique in the 2007 movie “Fully Flared”.
But of course behind any great mind, comes great inspiration. And who inspired Ty, Spike, and the Lakai team to create the most memorable skate film opening in extreme sports history? SNICKERS. That’s right. It wasn’t an artist, or a filmmaker. It was a delicious neatly nougat wrapped treat with a chocolaty exterior that gave the guys from Lakai the idea of the exploding opening.
In the spot below, you can see where Lakai, shot for shot, foresaw how mind blowing the result would be. In my opinion, Snickers deserves full credit for producing something so inspirational to millions of people and who are without a doubt are no longer hungry. It even sounds like Lakai tried to duplicate the opening song as well. Thanks Snickers. Also check out the BERRICS for some of the storyboards.
