Sean Malto: The Next Eric Koston?

Many people always ask who the next Koston will be.  Who knows who will be the next Eric Koston or if there will even be a next Eric Koston unless the present Eric Koston decides to have babies and calls one of them Eric Koston or if the Eric Koston right now is influenced by George Foreman who named all his kids “George” and Eric Koston today names all of his kids “Eric Koston” and potentially there can be multiple Eric Kostons.  But other than that, I don’t think there will ever be another Eric Koston.

Just look at all the all time greats in sports history.  They were known for their outstanding athletsicsm, their extreme versatility, extraordinary achievements, their heart and intensity, and most importantly, their individuality.  Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth, Mohammad Ali, and ARLO EISENBERG epitomizes greatness and when history looks back on these remarkable athletes, a true sports fan wouldn’t dare denigrate their legacy by calling them a future version of any predecessor.

So is Sean Malto the “Next Eric Koston”?  Let’s hope not because unless Sean becomes an anal retentive, stylistically minimalist skater who becomes disheartened whenever a trick isn’t landed with perfection (with all due respect to Koston considering those characteristics make up who he is), everyone will question where that good ol’ Kansas City spirit within Sean Malto went.  It will be up to Sean Malto to make his name mean something special and he can be SEAN MALTO if he thrives to be better than his predecessors.

Sir Isaac Newton is arguably the greatest scientist who ever lived.  But before him there was Galileo, and before Galileo there was Copernicus.  All of which were great individual thinkers.  But Newton said, “If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants”.

Check out this great article on ESPN (yep, the big boys) featuring Malto and his home town.
