Aussie Layne Beachley has seen a lot in her life and career, during which she’s won seven world titles.  However, in her new biography “Beneath the Waves,” written by Michael Gordon, she reveals that she was the result of the date rape of her biological mother.

Beachley had always been open about her adoption, but the book marks the first time she revealed the truth about her birth.

“It was a little bit confronting, but I think I felt more worried about my mother than I did for myself,” Beachley said of the revelation.

Beachley continues to be a force on the women’s world tour, currently ranked third in the world.  Her signature event, the Beachley Classic, is set to get underway on Oct. 9 in Manly Beach, Australia.  It’s the fifth of eight Women’s Tour events this season, and offers the largest prize purse for women in surfing.
