A Rainy Day In Beijing

It was a pretty nasty day today in Beijing with torrential rain just dousing the city with what’s possibly acid rain. You would think that Mother Nature would cause major setbacks in scheduling for the Olympic events. Not if the Chinese had anything to do with it. All sporting events continued as scheduled. All sporting events except for BMX. I guess with BMX only in it’s first year, the sport must pay its dues first.

Samantha Cools will have to wait the following day for a shot at her first Olympic BMX medal. The same goes for the rest of the women’s and men’s fields who were looking forward to their semifinal funs.

“We kind of knew [Wednesday] before going to bed that there was a chance of rain, so it wasn’t a big surprise when I woke up and there was no sun,” Cools said. “You just have to be focused and take all of that energy with you.”

samantha-cools.jpgSorry but besides Samantha Cools of Calgary Canada having one of the most extreme names in “extreme sports”, Cools was one of only a few quotes I could find online about their disappointment with the weather. But I’m sure many other athletes were bummed too but were probably out watching Badminton or something.
