Familiar Faces Move on To Maloof Money Cup Finals

Saturday marked the semi-finals for the Maloof Money Cup and many familiar faces found themselves moving on to Sunday’s finals in both street and vert.  Somewhat surprisingly Paul Rodriguez and Nyjah Huston led the Street field (Ryan Sheckler, broken elbow and all, placed 7th) while Pierre-Luc Gagnon and Shaun White led the Vert semis.

The finals all take place on Sunday starting around 3:30 p.m. for Vert and 7 p.m. for Street.  You can watch all the action live on Skateboard.com.

MALOOF MONEY CUP DAY 2: THE BATTLE RAGES ON!

Costa Mesa, Calif. – The skateboarding action was in full swing today at the Maloof Money Cup with Shaun White, Ryan Sheckler, Andrew Reynolds, Bryan Herman and more bringing their A-game for a chance to take home a big check.  It was a star-studded event with a live performance by Rev Theory, thousands of people in the etnies Festival Village and more energy than anyone could imagine.

U.S. MEN’S PRO STREET SEMI-FINALS:

Saturday evening the Semi-Finals included 24 skaters: twelve qualifying skaters from Friday’s preliminary competition joined 12 pre-qualified pros in the Semi-Final contest.  Three heats of eight skaters each competed in two 10-minute jam sessions with a three-minute break between each session. It was a great show for the spectators as the pros fought to nail a qualifying spot for the finals, proving only that all the best action is yet to come.  The top eight skaters advancing to the Finals are:

3rd — Andrew Reynolds
4th — Greg Lutzka
5th — Chris Cole
6th — Jereme Rogers
7th — Ryan Sheckler
8th — Darrell Stanton

CARL’S JR. U.S. MEN’S PRO VERT PRELIMINARIES:

Saturday evening Vert Preliminaries included 20 skaters in two heats of ten.  The contest’s eight-ball format highlights shorter, more intense eight wall runs and a 45-minute jam session.  The unique ramp set-up made for incredible skateboarding, and the competition between Shaun White and Pierre-Luc Gagnon was especially intense, with Gagnon squeaking into first place. The top 10 skaters advancing to the Finals are:

5th — Andy MacDonald

7th — Lincoln Ueda

éS GAME OF SKATE, PRESENTED BY BOOST MOBILE, AMATEUR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS AND PRO QUALIFIERS:

Young 14-year-old Carlos Lastra won the éS Game of SKATE Global Amateur Finals with a pop shuv-it-late-flip.  The 5 international skateboarders and 19 domestic skaters were flown in courtesy of éS and Boost Mobile.  Lastra hails from Long Beach, Calif., and qualified for the éS Game of SKATE at the Venice Beach éS Game of SKATE.

WORLD INDUSTRIES U.S. AMATEUR STREET CHAMPIONSHIPS:

The Saturday afternoon Finals included the final eight qualifying skaters from Friday’s Prelims.  Skaters were scored in two 10-minute jam sessions. The lowest score was thrown out and the remaining three scores were averaged for an overall score.  The final result results are:

5th — David Loy
6th — Cody Davis
7th — Evan Smith
8th — Collin Hale

WORLD INDUSTRIES U.S. AMATEUR VERT CHAMPIONSHIPS:

The Saturday afternoon Am Vert contest included 10 skaters from Friday’s Prelims.  Each skater got one intro run before the 30-minute jam session.  Skaters were judged on their overall impression during the contest.  It was a great day for Brazilians across the world as two young Brazilian Ams took the top two spots in the contest.
